New TII Book on Archaeological Discoveries on the N2/M2 in Dublin and Meath

Building on the Past

Just in time for Christmas, TII Archaeology and Heritage Section has published a new book featuring a range of significant archaeological discoveries made on the N2/M2 Finglas to Ashbourne Road Project in counties Dublin and Meath. Building on the Past: archaeological Investigations on the N2/M2 Finglas to Ashbourne Road Project, by Finola O’Carroll, is the fifteenth book in the TII Heritage series.

This latest title in the series records a wealth of discoveries along the new N2/M2 road corridor, from early prehistory to modern times—such as a Neolithic enclosure at Kilshane where dozens of cattle were slaughtered for ceremonial feasting; an Iron Age woman buried with rings on her toes at Rath; Bronze Age crouched inhumation burials with food vessels, in a ditched enclosure at Harlockstown; and farmsteads of the Anglo-Norman period in Baltrasna, Cookstown and Muckerstown. It is essential reading for anyone interested in new developments in Irish archaeology and the history of north County Dublin and County Meath.

The paperback version of Building on the Past can be purchased from Wordwell Books and a freely available PDF of the book can be read online here. An accessible ePub file is also available here.
