Vehicle and Infrastructure Maintenance
Information on the maintenance of the Luas trams and fixed infrastructure
Vehicle Maintenance
There are two Vehicle Maintenance Contracts (VMC and VMC2). Both contracts are between TII and Alstom, the vehicle manufacturer. VMC concerns the original fleet of 40 trams. These are based in the Red Cow depot. VMC2 concerns the newer fleet of 26 trams based in Sandyford depot. VMC2 may grow in time as extensions to Luas are opened to accommodate several more trams, which TII can purchase under existing contracts. Both vehicle maintenance contracts will expire in 2019.
The Vehicle Maintenance Contracts are novated to the Operator (Transdev), such that the Operator assumes all of TII’s rights and responsibilities, apart from certain retained and controlled functions. These functions include the right to make changes to the contract and to terminate the contract, amongst others.
The Vehicle Maintenance Contract has performance elements that are closely aligned with the service quality performance aspects of the Operating Contract.
Infrastructure Maintenance
Maintenance of all Luas fixed infrastructure other than the fare collection equipment is carried out by a consortium of Alstom and Veolia under contract to TII. This contract will expire in 2019. The Infrastructure Maintenance Contract is novated to the Operator (Transdev), such that the Operator assumes all of TII’s rights and responsibilities, apart from certain retained and controlled functions. These functions include the right to make changes to the contract and to terminate the contract, amongst others.
The Infrastructure Maintenance Contract has performance elements that are closely aligned with the service quality performance aspects of the Operating Contract.
