N17/N18 Gort to Tuam
The N17 /N18 PPP Scheme project road is approximately 57 km in length and commences at the northern extremity of the N18 Gort Crusheen scheme and ends in the vicinity of Tuam. The N17/N18 PPP Scheme replaced the existing N17 and N18 providing bypasses for the towns of Clarinbridge, Claregalway and Tuam where significant delays frequently occur. The project improves connectivity within the western region and significantly assists in the economic development of BMW (Border, Midlands and Western) regions. The scheme improves access to Shannon Airport and Ireland West Airport at Knock, which has been identified as a major infrastructural requirement for sustaining industrial growth in the region.
The upfront design and construction costs were financed by the PPP Co who in turn are remunerated by payments (termed Unitary or Availability Payments) made by TII over the twenty-five-year operational period contract term.
In April 2014 the PPP Contract was award to the Direct Route consortium consisting of Marguerite Road Ireland S.a.r.l, Lagan Project Investments Limited, Motorway West Limited (Roadbridge), PPP Road Holdings Limited (Sisk), Road Infrastructure (Ireland) Limited and Strabag SE (“the PPP Co”).
